Building a COVID-19 advice hub for millions of vulnerable people in the UK

A community of 3.5 million people uniquely challenged by COVID-19 can now access vital healthcare guidance.

The project began when we spoke with one of our longest-standing clients, Genetic Alliance UK. After hearing of the devastating impact the Coronavirus has had on their services, it was clear to us that patients desperately needed reliable medical advice on how to best protect themselves throughout the pandemic.

GA UK is an alliance of over 200 patient charities that people across the UK rely on to manage their often complex, rare or genetic conditions – something close to Bond and Coyne’s own heart. We proposed and volunteered to build a central online advice hub, allowing patients to quickly access up-to-date information. These vulnerable people, their families and carers have faced a lack of clear guidance on managing their healthcare during this crisis.

In under a week the hub was live, offering condition-specific and regional advice. It now arms some of the most vulnerable in our society with the knowledge to protect themselves and continue to manage their condition with confidence.

It is vitally important that any person with a rare disease is not disadvantaged during this crisis.

We must keep rethinking traditional ideas throughout the pandemic in order for charities to continue providing essential services and advice.
